Sisterly advice

Buffy walked down the stairs. The living room was thronged as usual. Vi, Rhona, Amanda and a few of the girls, whose name she
didn’t remember were crowded together around what used to be her mother’s favourite armchair. She spotted Dawn’s dark head in the middle of the huddle with a newspaper in her hands. Curiosity peaked she walked over to the group.
“The house sounds quiet, so I figured it must be Tuesday. What’s going on sister of mine?”
Dawn’s head popped up with a smile, “Reading the horoscopes.”
There was a chorus of giggles from the gaggle of little girls.
Buffy rolled her eyes but couldn’t help a twitch upward of the lips. The girls moved apart and dispersed through the room leaving the Slayer make her up to her sister’s side.
“Go on, then,” Buffy bumped her shoulder off her sister’s. Of course, this was only possible because the freakish giant was sitting down. “Tell me if my horoscope says I’m going to defeat the First.”
Dawn’s eyes scanned the page, “Hmm – Capricorn..Found it!”
“Oh let me know dear sister. I am positively dying of anticipation.”
“Well you’re the one that asked,” Dawn replied haughtily. “Capricorn - beware of past lovers,” she continued. “If you were scorned once chances are you’ll be scorned again.”
The younger sister finished with a smirk and knowing eyes. Buffy bit her lip. It could mean Spike or Angel, although Spike didn’t exactly scorn her. She froze for a moment. What the hell was she doing? Since when she let mindless drivel like horoscopes get to her.
Annoyed at herself, Buffy flushed, “Not like I believe in that crap anyway.”
“Vampires, “ Dawn coughed into her hand.
Buffy pulled the cushion from behind Dawn’s head, the force cause her head to bounce back against the chair.
“Do you know what I think?” Dawn asked playfully. She continued without waiting for an answer, “You should stay away from vampires full stop and get yourself a nice guy like Xander or a much younger Giles.”
At the mention of Giles both sisters froze and uttered a simultaneous “Euugh.”
“You’ll be giving me nightmares you brat!”
“If it’s any consolation I’m giving myself terrifying day dreams," Dawn confessed with a shudder.
“Ok- I need to go kill something,” Buffy announced. “Do you know where Spike is?”
“He went out for a smoke,” Dawn answered, that teasing smile on her face once again.
Buffy glared at her little sister. “Don’t say anything.”
She opened the door and the aforementioned vampire was walking up the pathway, his hands in his duster. He gave her one of his rare true smiles and she realise no matter how much she wanted to, despite all the shit they had been through she needed him by her side. What they were exactly she didn’t know and she didn’t know what they could be or what she wanted them to be just yet either. They still had time to figure all that out, a day at a time.

The end...
