Well the depression-ness might be a foregone conclusion simply because Whedon seems to have a fascination with mental breakdowns (although the issue isn't always treated with due seriousness) but I was referring mostly to how Angelus' intention with Buffy was the same as with Drusilla - to slowly torture her by hurting and killing the people around her first.
