Fic: Silence
Title: Silence
Creator: drizzlydaze
Rating: PG
Setting: S7
Word count: 108
Prompt: Silence
No living thing has ever experienced silence. There is quiet, and then there is the deafening silence of heartbeats and tinnitus, which is no silence at all. In all fairness, Spike, undead, has never experienced it either; his hearing is too sensitive, even without a heartbeat to hear.
This, he thinks, is the closest he can get.
He feels her heartbeat as much as he hears it, by his ear. It’s a refuge. It’s somehow sacred. It’s something he should stop ruminating about if he wants to keep clean of poetry.
He allows himself to finish the thought: the silence in the spaces between each steady beat.
