Setting: Post-series, AU from the comics

The Devil Take his Soul

Spike’s not a fan of G.I. Joe at the best of times. Corn-fed has been party to several of the most humiliating moments of Spike’s unlife, and that’s not a trait what tends to endear one fellow to another.
So to have him here now, an official part of the team, isn’t exactly the best part of Spike’s day. Buffy, kind-hearted Buffy, forgiving girl that she is, seems to expect him to just make nice with Soldier Boy. Make like, now that he has a soul, the past is the past between them.
His bloody conscience (which sounds an awful like the Slayer) is on him too. Reminding him how the love-of-his-unlife granted him the same favor, once upon a time.
“Fine,” Spike growls to no one in particular. “I’ll – not kill him.” Not quite on the order of making nice, but it’s a start.
His soul is a work in progress, he figures. Same as any other.
