Right after a drink. What’s one more, at this point?

Oh yes, I know that rationalization all too well....

They flinch at his vehemence, and guilt washes over him. They’ve put up with so much, risked so much, suffered just as much as he. More, to be honest. And he’s failed them repeatedly. Apologies are in order, but Giles has no time for that now.

EXCELLENT Giles voices - and Willow and Xander voices.

It is a little scary how much risk Giles let the other children - with no training and nothing but enthusiasm in their armory - take on in Buffy's absence in canon (and here in the story); which we'll see again when he takes off in S6. (Badly, awkwardly handled, yes; out of character? Not really.)

This story also illustrates again what a monstrously bad idea it is to leave the fate of the world in the hands of one (traumatized) little girl and one (traumatized) Watcher. It's a fucked up system and the Watchers in the field and the Slayers are no less victims of it.
