I was liking these, which are basic enough. In Elle Decoration this month (I get it free from the bank, I promise) they've gone all Mediterranean summer living, and there was a really nice house that was all washed-black floor tiles, then a rusticy bathroom that would be mega expensive really, so scratch that, but then more glazedy black tiles in the shower and a warm pale grey on the walls. It looks nice. The only problem is that they have a wet room thing going on with some patterned encaustic tiles rather than anything that looks like a functioning bath or shower. I don't know how you mix in a load of white porcelain with that look.
I also like these which are more stupid and expensiver and I've forgotten how I was thinking you could lay them. But they'd work better with a white suite. Though, obviously, you'd have some sort of off-beat freestanding bath and a sink with a cabinet in a nice colour. Maybe buttercup yellow. With blush pink walls.
Literally, if you give me your dimensions and a budget I will merrily design you a bathroom one random Sunday. Though I know nothing about plumbing. Or designing bathrooms, really. I just like tiles. I would not suggest pastels.
